All tapes are recorded in wave form at 24bit 48kbps. I first adjust the tape trim to give a nice amount of EQ boost before recording. I use "MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab 10" for my audio enhancing. I don't know much about the program to use the effects perfectly, but I find, if you don't apply too many effects, the music stays true and extremely realistic. So I sparingly tamper with the graphic equalisation etc, normalisation of volume... mostly hiss, noise and crackles are taken out with ACL.
From here, the audio either gets burnt to CD or the new, adjusted audio file is saved and exported from ACL, ready for conversion to mp3.
Finally, the adjusted wave file recordings are encoded to mp3 using "Audiograbber" and the LAME encoder at 256kbps.
